History

The Cryogenic Combustion Lab (CCL) was founded by Professor Robert J. Santoro and is now directed by Professor Richard A. Yetter. A NASA grant was awarded to the Pennsylvania State University to develop the Propulsion Engineering Research Center (PERC) in 1988. As part of this grant the CCL was constructed. The first phase of CCL development was completed in 1990, capable of operating with bipropellants comprising gaseous oxygen (GOM2) and hydrogen (GH2). Cryogenic oxygen capabilities were added within the year.
