Coupled electro-mechanical stimuli and hostile environments cause constituents of the Active Fiber Composites to experience nonlinear and inelastic behaviors, leading to complex failure mechanisms.
Characterization of the composites includes mechanical, electrical and dielectric measurements through Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), static tensile testing and dielectric spectroscopy.
